Home office with Snom

In the wake of increased concern about the corona virus (COVID-19 / SARS-CoV-2), companies and organisations called on their workforces to avoid crowds and, if possible, not to use public transport to travel to work, but to work from home instead. During the pandemic, schools and public authorities were forced to close their doors to prevent the spread of the virus.

For some employees, home office is a long-cherished dream come true; for others, this situation is more of a challenge. For many, the question arises: How are we supposed to maintain communication with all the team members, customers, partners and suppliers by telephone from their home office?

We have summarised the most important questions for you:

How can I ensure that all telephone address books and other settings are also available at home?

Don't worry; almost all of us will be able to move our work to other locations with the least effort imaginable and, above all, without any security risks for the company. Depending on the type of phone systems used in your company, either the contacts sync with your Snom phone or you simply access all important data via the phone cloud. Once the system is in the cloud, it becomes very simple: you take your phone home, connect it to your router via LAN cable or use our Snom A210 WLAN stick. The phone then connects to the cloud and you make calls just as you would from the company - including using address books, speed dials and all the functions you have installed on your phone.

If your telephone system is a so-called "on premise" IP telephone system (PBX), i.e. permanently installed in the company, you may only need one more intermediate step: If you want to encrypt the data stream between your home office telephone and the PBX in the office, your administrator must make the Snom telephone VPN-capable, i.e. the settings on the web interface are adjusted and a VPN patch is installed which is available for each telephone in the firmware segment on service.snom.com. Once this has been done: Take the Snom phone with you, log on to your router / the Internet via LAN cable or Snom A210 WLAN stick and you can start just making calls as you would at your normal place of work.

Hardware for the home office: Snom brings the conference home

The connection from the laptop at home to the company server is established. But where do we go from here? Perhaps you have your children at home with you, but the project urgently requires a telephone conference and the workplace at the desk at home also needs to be set up sporadically?

Schools and day-care centres are sometimes closed or a child is sick, and companies are increasingly opting to send their employees home to work whenever possible. Telephone and web conferences are now replacing face-to-face meetings for 45 per cent of professionals. Often, it means being flexible and making the best of everyday challenges. However, not every task can be comfortably managed by email or in a simple phone call. Especially for complex projects on which several colleagues are working, joint meetings in real time are essential. The good news: this is easy to resolve. And without high costs, technical effort or even setting up additional telephone numbers.

Preparing for the conference is very simple: Just plug the Snom A230 DECT USB stick into the existing USB port of the telephone - that's all! Once a connection is made from the stick to the Snom C52-SP extension speaker, the powerful built-in microphones and large speaker make it easy to hold conference calls via the existing extension.

And should family life unexpectedly spill into the home office, the cordless, DECT-compatible loudspeaker equipped with rechargeable batteries can be quickly taken into another room - no problem thanks to the range of up to 50 metres.

Take:

  • a Snom phone with USB input
  • one Snom C52-SP extension speaker
  • and the Snom A230 DECT USB stick

and you already have a professional conference solution!

Relaxed and concentrated in every situation

Another problem in the home office, which is only used sporadically, is that the workplace - often the family dining table - is not always available to use. In addition, there are various disturbing sound sources in the home that make it different from the usual noise level of a company office and make working at home even more difficult.

All those who also want to have their hands free when making a call and concentrate fully on the person they are talking to should therefore take a closer look at Snom's DECT headsets. And what could be more annoying than when an important call is overshadowed by noise or even cut off altogether? Snom DECT headsets have powerful features for efficient and ergonomic work in everyday business life at home.

The Snom A150, for example, is one of the smallest and lightest DECT headsets in its class. But even this model offers first-class broadband sound and a high DECT range of up to 15 metres without compromising quality.

The Snom A170 allows an even greater radius of movement, enabling you to move up to 25 metres away from the base station. The lightweight, handy headset can be worn comfortably directly on the ear or via the supplied headband or neckband and also has a full-range loudspeaker and a microphone with passive noise cancelling, so that disruptive ambient noise is also filtered out.
