snom technology and Borderware Technologies Announce Strategic Partnership to Increase VoIP Security

Companies to demo snom phones with the SIPassure VoIP gateway solution at CeBIT and VON Spring

snom technology AG, developer and manufacturer of Voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephones, and BorderWare Technologies, a leading provider of messaging security, privacy and compliance solutions, today announced a strategic partnership to combine snom phones with the SIPassure VoIP Security Gateway solution. This combination offers a secure and easy to use solution that can be integrated seamlessly into any SIP infrastructure.

"snom's compatibility with BorderWare's SIPassure VoIP Security Gateway enables us to offer additional security for our phones from the entry-level snom 300 to the newest snom 370. Now, we offer the most secure Voice-over-IP solution currently available to VoIP telephony providers, ISPs, administrators and VoIP users," said Dr. Michael Knieling, Marketing and Sales Director of snom.

All snom phones are equipped with the best security features available today. While SRTP and TLS protect against unauthorized listening, PBXs must support this functionality. With BorderWare's SIPassure, this is no longer necessary, as it combines the functionality of an Application Layer Gateway (ALG) with the benefits of a Session Border Controller (SBC). Using NAT (Network Address Translation) and SIPassure's ability to provide Far-end NAT Traversal services, it is also possible to use SIP services on a network that is protected by a firewall. SIPassure protects against application specific attacks such as registry attacks and spits, as well as floods of unsolicited calls or messages.

VoIP communication that would otherwise be open and unencrypted is secured using TLS and SRTP. BorderWare offers secure integration of the individual components, irrespective of the PBX/TK system used.

"The snom and BorderWare partnership creates the technological and practical requirements for being able to take advantage of the benefits of VoIP without the risks. SIPassure has been designed to be scalable at a low cost for both end user companies and network providers and offers a secure VoIP connection for every user," commented Peter Cox, CTO International BorderWare.

While encryption services are less important for internal communication, calls to and from external phones including home users should be secured in order to lower the risks of eavesdropping and unauthorized monitoring. Now, snom offers full functionality for all levels of security on all of its models starting with the snom 300, and informs the user about security connection status via the lock symbol on the screen.

snom will be exhibiting at CeBIT (Hannover, Germany), March 15-21, 2007,Hall 13, booth D53/1 and at Spring VON, March 19-22, 2007 in San Jose, CA at booth #1341
