Thanks to Microsens switches, snom VoIP telephones can now also be used for Internet telephony in fiber optic networks

A growing number of companies are opting to use fiber optic networks, which in comparison to conventional copper networks offer greater life expectancy and efficiency and are considerably more cost-effective in terms of installation and maintenance.

In combination with the "Fiber-to-the-Office" components from Microsens (www.microsens.com), the secure business telephones snom 320 and snom 360, equipped with copper connections, now also enable economic IP telephony on fiber optic-based networks.

"A crucial prerequisite for the efficient use of IP telephones in fiber optic environments is the function Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), with which the IP telephone receives data and power through one and the same cable," says Marko Richter, Executive Sales Manager of Microsens. "The trend is moving clearly towards a universal power supply for different end devices while at the same time keeping infrastructure costs as low as possible. For VoIP, centralized power is now almost universally provided over the PoE standard IEEE 802.3af".

"Without the Microsens solution for an intelligent fiber optic/copper integration, such a straightforward use of our IP telephones in fiber optic networks just wouldn't have been possible," states Dr. Michael Knieling, Marketing and Sales Director of snom. "Thanks to Microsens, we do not need to equip the snom devices, which with their comprehensive functions and security features were developed for professional use, with extra fiber optic connections. Nevertheless, we can now partner with fiberoptic enterprise network providers to reach a whole new group of customers."

Microsens will be at the Cologne exponet from 08.11. - 10.11.2005, Hall 11.2, Stand M20, using snom telephones to demonstrate the efficiency of IP telephony with a telecommunications system in a fiberoptic enterprise network environment.
