snom Releases Version 4.0 Firmware for snom 360 IP Phone

Enhanced Provider Interoperability, Improved Audio, Bandwidth and Memory Management Provide Unparalleled Performance and Flexibility.

snom technology AG (www.snom.com) has announced release of its Version 4.0 firmware upgrade for the snom 360 IP telephone, introduced earlier this year at VON and CeBIT.

Heralded as a revolutionary step forward in IP business telephone design, the snom 360's large display, built-in SIP-standard security and rich feature set are now enhanced by Version 4.0 improvements including:

Enhanced Provider Interoperability - With Version 4.0, the snom 360 can "plug and play" with most SIP-based iTSP carrier services; transparently adapting to a far broader range of providers that do not yet use session border controllers.

12-Line Capability - Improved memory management and support for the IETF's latest Bridged-Line Appearance (BLA) specification lets the snom 360 access up to twelve lines, from different providers, and work flexibly in popular "key system" configurations.

Improved Audio Features, Bandwidth Management - snom's Version 4.0 upgrade equips the 360 with optional silence suppression and voice activity detection for reduced bandwidth consumption; as well as improved sidetone and local keytone generation for a more conventional and comfortable audio experience.

New Memory Management - Version 4.0's improved memory-management system, along with enhancements to platform programmable features, enormously increases the flexibility and power of the snom 360 for end-users, integrators and developers. Configurability has been much enhanced. At deeper levels, developers will discover that much of the underlying power of the snom 360's Linux platform is now available for use in implementing phone-embedded applications.

Improved Web and User-Interface Features - Version 4.0 makes several key enhancements to the snom 360's keypad user interface, including revised menus, better cursor control, and improved indicator-light synchronization. The web interface has also been enhanced with several new features, new status indications, and improved dialing capability.

SNMP Management - With Version 4.0, the snom 360 is now equipped with an SNMP agent, permitting easy remote management and alerting via enterprise- and carrier-class SNMP management infrastructure.

Secure Firmware Update Mechanism - Starting with Version 4.0 snom is introducing use of a license key for authenticated firmware updates: an industry standard in security that can be used by partners with complete confidence, and a great tool for snom OEM products.

Simple Installation

snom 360s can be upgraded to Version 4.0 by downloading two files from snom's website and installing them on the phone. The upgrade can then be activated by obtaining an unlocking key from snom's online key generator. snom's group installation system has been enhanced to make upgrade and key distribution to multiple telephones a simple process.
