snom 4S Calling Card System

As a full VoIP service provider, with the 4S Calling Card system snom is for the first time presenting an integrated system solution for Internet Telephony Service Providers (ITSP) and also traditional telecommunications providers who wish to improve their existing IP infrastructure and to integrate Voice-over-IP into their services. All that end users require is a softphone on their PC or a VoIP telephone. They are identified by their 12-figure calling card number and authenticated using the PIN provided with the card.

"With this combination of fully developed SIP and media software as well as the tried and tested IT techniques that ensure scalability and redundancy, we are offering users a very efficient solution that is unique worldwide", states executive director Nicolas-Peter Pohland. "The system is setting new standards, especially with regard to costs". The 4S Calling Card system is currently in use by China Telecom in Shenyang, where the first trial run with thousands of users has been completed successfully.

IP phones snom 190 und snom 220 soon available:

snom is enlarging its product spectrum by two new telephones this year and is presenting the prototypes at the CeBIT 2004. The snom 190 differs from former products in that it can be linked with more appliances of other manufacturers through Codec G.723.1. In addition, the user can make calls of the same quality with smaller bandwidths, which was previously only possible with broadband technology.

The snom 220 is distinguished by a more comfortable 128 x 64 pixel graphical backlight display. With the key expansion module (Keypad 220), call coverage and management are very easy to handle. You can cascade up to three units. "The snom 220 is a high-end affordable business phone, which addresses the communication needs of power users such as executive and administrative staff who require very high standards from communication systems", says Pohland, describing the target group. "As it supports the Chinese und Japanese languages, the snom 220 also fulfills international requirements". By means of a standard coding solution from the area of IT (TLS), optimal bugging and configuration protection for all models is guaranteed. The phones are expected to be available this year.

SIP Provider Partnership Program

snom makes it its business to offer complete SIP solutions, meaning products and services on the basis of its own and partner technologies. "After we had developed all kinds of products by ourselves and had these products approved by partners, we were asked to also approve and mediate SIP services" comments Pohland regarding his next Voice-over IP project. "In addition to our free-of-charge "best effort" internet-to-internet SIP Service we refer clients to inexpensive SIP Services from partners who enable calling with the traditional telephone network, the so-called PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network), which has a good quality and offers a high standard of service to the customers."
