How to configure your snom phone to register with OCS

Please note that the use of the snom OCS Edition requires a special Beta firmware available upon request.  Please send an email to to tk@snom.com.

With your phone connected to the Microsoft® Office Communication Server 2007 you have basic call features.

Stay tuned for more advanced features (e.g., set presence, view presence status, etc.) coming shortly.

Note: We discovered an issue with the Enterprise version (only one Frontend Server without Load-Balancer) with TLS. It looks like the Microsoft Office Communication Server 2007 Enterprise edition forces MTLS on our phones (it does not happen on the Standard edition).

We are working on finding a solution to this, until then please follow the steps showed here.

Step 1 - Set up the Microsoft® Office Communication Server 2007 Identity

Open the web interface of your snom phone and select the identity you wish to configure with OCS.

Enter the following identity details (please set "Identity Active" to "on"):

Display Name = Name or number to be shown on display
Account = User part of the SIP-URI (e.g., in the case of waigel@ocsdemo.net"waigel" is the username)
Password = User's password
Registrar = The domain name you are using (server part of the SIP-URI, e.g. in the case of waigel@ocsdemo.net it is "ocsdemo.net")
Outbound Proxy = The  Microsoft® Office Communication Server 2007 address with the transport=tls parameterAuthentication Username = The Microsoft Active Directory (Microsoft® Office Communication Server 2007 enabled account name) username (optional with internal Domain ocsdemo\twaigel).

Save your changes.

Step 2 - Set up SIP parameters

After saving the account data, please klick on the SIP tab.

Please set:

Server Type Support = OCS (dropdownfield)
Report Machine State = off
Report Phone State = on

--> Save

With the Dialplan String you can define the location profile which the phone should load/use. If you leave this field empty the snom phone tries to load the Profile named "default". If you want the phone not to load a Profile just set it to a non existing profile (this will be improved in the next version).

Please note: Machine state should only be used when no other device (e.g. Microsoft Office Communicator 2007, Tanjay etc.) is using presence information on the used account.
The phone state reports to OCS whether the user is on the phone, has DND enabled, etc. This option should be on in every environment.

Step 3 - Set sRTP Option to OCS enabled mode

After saving the SIP data, please klick on the RTP tab.

Please set:

SRTP Auth-tag = AES-80

--> Save

Step 4 - snom OCS specific settings

Click on the "Advanced" menu item on the lleft side of the phone's web interface.  Then click on the SIP/RTP tab and set:

Refer-To Brackets = ON
Offer GRUU = OFF
Register HTTP contact = OFF

Save your changes.

Step 5 - Configure address book search with Microsoft® Active Directory (via snom LDAP)

Now you can set up the Directory search to enable direct name dialing. Go to the "Advanced" menu item and scroll down to LDAP.

Set the following parameters:

LDAP name Filter = (|(name=%) (msRTCSIP-PrimaryUserAddress=sip:%))
LDAP number Filter = (|(telephoneNumber=%)(mobile=%)(homePhone=%)(ipPhone=%))
Server address = Active Directory server (AD)
Base = OU=rtc-users,DC=ocsdemo,DC=net
LDAP name attributes = displayName cn sn
LDAP number attributes =mobile homeNumber telephoneNumber msRTCSIP-PrimaryUserAddress
LDAP display name = %displayName %msRTCSIP-PrimaryUserAddress

Optional: Switch LDAP results to show name AND number

To be shown a name and the corresponding phone number in the results of the LDAP query, please go to "Preferences" and change:

Number Display Style = Name + Number

Then you will also get the number when doing an address book search.

Please note:

snom implemented this ability in a special firmware called "snom OCS edition" (Open Communication Solution) which has not yet been approved. If you wish to test this version, just send an e-mail to tk@snom.com.

The snom OCS-Edition: Enhancing your everyday business communication!

NOTE:
snom phones only support TLS with a maximum key length of 1024 BIT. With a longer key you will get certificate errors on Microsoft Office Communication Server 2007.
